Si Fu Marco has been training martial arts most of his life. At age 9 he was introduced to Japanese arts and practiced karate for several years. He then moved into learning Chinese martial arts at the age of 13. His enthusiasm and dedication in kung fu led him to open his own school at the tender age of 19. He started instructing at the local gym and within six months moved into his own premises.

My Kung fu journey began in 2003 and since then I have dedicated myself to the practice of our Chang Hong system.
This system has become an integral part of my life and afforded me many opportunities to learn, to travel, and to broaden my mind. Its richness and sheer scope ensure I will be a perpetual student always with something new to learn.
My hope is that by imparting this knowledge to my students, I can help change lives and empower them in the same way my teachers did for me.
The Glencairn school was opened in 2014 when I relocated to Cape Town from Johannesburg and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

I started attending kung fu classes with CMAHC in 2016, initially in search of self-defense training, and was intruiged to discover that this martial artform offered not only very tactile self-defense techniques, but also fluid formwork containing movements with practical applications. Since then I’ve been thoroughly enthralled and enthusiastic to just learn more and more from an array of passionate and skilled teachers. Through my eagerness to share what I’d learned with classmates and peers, I also became involved in teaching. Recently, I’ve become involved in training up the next generation of ninja warriors through our Kid’s Kung Fu programme.
I am so grateful to have found a discipline that has enlightened and empowered me in numerous ways, linking physical action with concepts informed by Daoist philosophies. Kung Fu has been a positive constant in my life, particularly during the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a lifelong journey of learning, and one which I would highly recommend.
